Beaver Tree Painting

Family Volunteer Event

  • Date: 08/07/2019 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Location: Golden Ponds Nature Area
    2651 3rd Avenue
    Longmont, Colorado 80503
  • Introduction: Help protect establishing native trees
This will be a fun, family-friendly volunteer event! Ages 8+. Beavers provide important ecosystem services in our floodplains. They can be a big help creating and restoring wetlands. Sometimes though, we want to plant native trees to enhance and restore our urban floodplains but protect them from beavers as they establish. This allows the trees to grow big enough to provide a shaded creek corridor for fish or stabilize a bank with their roots. Come help us apply special beaver protection paint to cottonwood trees. Remember to wear old clothes because the paint does not wash out. Registration is required through the Parks, Open Space, and Trails JoinUs volunteer portal.
