Library Asking Public to Select Author for Day of the Dead Altar
One of five authors receiving most votes to be honored on annual altar
The Longmont Public Library is once again planning an elaborate altar to honor a famous children’s author during the City’s annual Day of the Dead celebrations. This year, however, selection of the author is being left up to the public. Throughout the month of September, members of the community can vote for one of five beloved authors through an online survey, and from Monday, September 18 through Sunday, September 25, voters can make their selection in person in the Library’s lobby. Library staff narrowed the selection to a group of critically acclaimed and popular authors who are no longer with us: Maya Angelou, Margaret Wise Brown, Anna Dewdney, Walter Dean Myers, and Elie Weisel. A few details about the authors, including books or stories they are best known for, are included in the voting materials, both in the lobby and online. Whichever author receives the most votes by October 1 will be the honored soul on the Day of the Dead altar in the Library’s West Lobby. So get into the Library or get online and get voting for your favorite!
