June Construction Work - Longmont Civic Center

Post Date:06/04/2018 7:00 am

http://bit.ly/longmont-civic-centerStarting the week of June 4, noisy work will begin on the west plaza level. Activities include sawcutting, jackhammering, drilling, etc. Expect heavy noise work throughout the month of June with intermittent noise for the duration of the project.

Also beginning the week of June 4, the 3rd Avenue sidewalk and some street parking on 3rd Avenue will be closed for approximately 2 weeks for demolition of the perimeter brick wall.

For the week of June 11, the sidewalk and some parking in front of the building on Kimbark Street will be closed. Crews will be removing trees and bushes, demolition of the perimeter brick wall and stairs, and soil excavation for garage beam access. This closure will be in effect through the end of June.

Throughout the construction phase, entrance into the building can be accessed via the South entrance located on 3rd Avenue, East entrance located on Emery Street, or the North entrance. The West entrance does not affect ADA parking as it can still be accessed at the North entrance.

Project Background

The $4 million parking garage renovation project was recommended to the City of Longmont to update the failing existing post tension supports of the structure, which were installed when the garage was built in 1975. To bring the building to code standards, new external post tension supports will be installed and new concrete overlay will be applied. Although the garage is in need of structural repairs, the offices located above the garage are safely supported. Offices located above the garage include: CMO’s office, Finance and Utility Billing office, Human Resources, Risk Management, Neighborhood Resources, and CDBG, and Parapet Wall.
