Library Launches Unlimited Access to Digital New York Times
Free service includes Spanish language edition
As news consumers struggle to separate fact from fiction on their digital devices, the Longmont Public Library is introducing free and unlimited access to The New York Times’ digital version for all library card-holders. This new service will allow patrons to read digital articles from 1851 to 1923 and 1980 through today, as well as watch videos and listen to podcasts. Spanish and Chinese language editions are also included in the service. Readers can use The New York Times mobile apps for phones and tablets and opt to receive email newsletters and notifications, including the Morning and Evening Briefings. Account settings and features may be customized, and closed captioning, increased type size, and other accessibility features are available. Educators can also explore resources like Learning Network, which includes lesson plans for teachers.
Access to the service through the Library’s onsite computers or wifi will not require a passcode, but patrons will need to get a 72-hour pass for access outside the Library. There is no limit to 72-hour passes, and both access options will require patrons to create a login. Importantly, this service is only available through the Library links; access is not available via The Times’ main website address. Visit our eReading page to learn more, stop by the Library’s second floor information desk, or call a librarian at (303) 651-8472.
