Most City Facilities Closed on Monday
Longmont city government observes the Presidents Day holiday on Monday, February 18. All City facilities are closed except Recreation facilities, which will be open regular hours. Trash, recycling and composting collection will be collected one day later than normal during the week. 

Celebrate Chinese New Year
Join several community groups to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Pig from 2 to 5 pm on Saturday, February 16, at Silver Creek High School, 4901 Nelson Road. Enjoy food tastings, a lion dance, music, arts and crafts, and a virtual reality look at China’s past, present and future. This event is free and open to the public. RTD to Host Public Meeting in Longmont on Bus Rapid Transit and Proposed Bikeway 
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) will hold a public meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, February 20, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. RTD is seeking input and will provide an update on the proposed Bus Rapid Transit route, options to improve transit service, travel time, and roadway improvements on Highway 119 (the Diagonal) between and within Longmont and Boulder. The Colorado Department of Transportation also will present information about the proposed bikeway along Highway 119. This meeting was scheduled for February 6 but was cancelled due to weather. Community Conversation on Gun Violence
The community is invited to the second Safety AND Respect conversation on action planning to end the risk of gun violence in Longmont from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, February 27, at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road. Linking Longmont: Safe Walking, Riding, Rolling
Learn about plans and projects for multiple modes of travel through Longmont from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, March 6, at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road. Hear presentations at 5:30, then visit exhibits on efforts to improve local street, trail and bicycle travel. Get free tickets and details at bit.ly/linking-longmont.

Play Ball With Recreation Services
Spring adult sports leagues are gearing up! February 18 is the early-bird deadline to register for men’s, women’s and coed adult softball. Want to play but not on a team? Adults can register as free agents for all City of Longmont adult sports leagues. Visit LongmontColorado.gov/leagues or stop by the Longmont Recreation Center at 310 Quail Road to sign up for softball (age 16+), flag football (age 18+), or adult indoor volleyball (age 16+).

Microsoft Word 2016 for Beginners 
Learn Microsoft Word at this three-session course hosted by the Senior Computer Tech Center at Front Range Community College, 2190 Miller Drive. Class meets from 1:30 to 4 pm on February 25 and 27 and March 4. You’ll learn basic operations for creating, editing, formatting and printing documents in Word 2016. The cost is $22 for residents and $25 for nonresidents. Call 303-651-8411 to register. 

Register for Spring Fishing Event for Kids
The 17th annual Chick Clark Kids’ Fishing Program kickoff event will be held on Saturday, March 23, at Izaak Walton Pond, 18 S. Sunset Street. This program provides a special opportunity for Longmont youth ages 15 and younger to learn how to fish, participate in fun outdoor activities, and catch their own fish year-round. The March 23 kickoff includes a free kids’ fishing clinic (preregistration required), free lunch and free fishing for kids. Coffee with Council is Next Saturday 

Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, February 23, at the Lashley Street Station, 1200 Lashley Street. At this event, you can talk informally with at least two council members on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us! Council Members Peck and Martin are scheduled to attend.
