Phase 2 of Spring Gulch #2 Construction Begins after Labor Day

Post Date:08/28/2019
Construction on Phase 2 of the Spring Gulch #2 Drainage and Trail Improvement project is anticipated to begin Tuesday, Sept. 3, and last approximately 15 months.

The project addresses drainage, open space and transportation issues by designing and constructing a greenway trail connection and channel improvements along the Spring Gulch #2 drainage in the northeast part of Longmont.

Phase 2 of the three-phase project will extend from Stephen Day Park southeast to the Union Reservoir Nature Area at Weld County Road 26. Work will include installing a 10-foot wide concrete greenway with a 3-foot wide crusher fine trail, a box culvert system consisting of a pedestrian underpass and two drainage culverts running under County Line Road, and relocating the Lower Oligarchy Ditch.

Edge Contracting, Inc., based out of Golden, has been selected to complete the project, which is anticipated to cost approximately $7.2 million. The company previously completed the Lykins Gulch flood protection project and installed the box culvert running along Ken Pratt Boulevard as part of intersection improvements.

Once all three phases of the Spring Gulch #2 Drainage and Trail Improvement project are complete, the Spring Gulch #2 Greenway will provide an important north-south greenway connection running from the Ute Creek Golf Course southeast to Union Reservoir, continuing on to Sandstone Ranch Nature Area, and then connecting with the St. Vrain Greenway.
