Coffee with Council is This Saturday 
Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, January 25, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. At this event, you can talk informally with at least two council members on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us! Council Members Martin and Christensen are scheduled to attend. New Exhibit at the Longmont Museum
Colorado artist Terry Maker mines commonplace materials, cutting and combining them into dense and tactile wall reliefs and large-scale freestanding sculptures. Join the Longmont Museum from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, January 24, to celebrate the opening of this one-of-a-kind exhibit with light hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and DJ Marlowe spinning vinyl (because it’s also round). The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and free for members. Cocktail attire requested, dancing recommended. Ward I Town Hall
You are invited to join Ward I Council Member Tim Waters at a Town Hall meeting from 9 to 10:30 am on Saturday, February 1, at the Lashley Street Station, 1200 Lashley Street. Ward I is generally east of Main Street, although all residents are welcome to join the conversation. Find out which ward you live in at bit.ly/LongmontWards. Winter Walkabout Music Showcase
The Winter Walkabout Music Showcase is back for its second year from 2 to 10 pm on Saturday, February 1. The indoor music festival features 52 performances across 17 venues, all within walking distance and all included in one $25 ticket. Register for Summer Day Camp
Registration for Recreation and Golf Services’ Longmont Summer Day Camp and Tween LOCO Camps opens February 1. Operating out of the St. Vrain Memorial Building at 700 Longs Peak Avenue, campers ages 5-13 enjoy swimming, field trips, and weekly themed activities. Five-year-olds must have completed kindergarten. Call 303-651-8404 or visit LongmontColorado.gov/SummerDayCamp for details. Or, check out the summer camps at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road. June and July hands-on camps for ages 3-16 focus on history, art, music, culture, science and more. Full need-based scholarships are available. Shred Your Private Documents for Free
Take your boxed or bagged documents to be shredded to the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Saturday, February 1, to safely and securely recycle your private documents. This is for residential documents only; no business materials will be accepted. Also take identification and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. Volunteer to Teach English
Intercambio is seeking volunteers to teach English to adult immigrants, and there is a particular need for volunteers in Longmont. No teaching experience or Spanish required. The first step to become a volunteer English teacher is to attend a Volunteer Teacher Information Session. The next session is from 4 to 5 pm on Thursday, February 6, at 1715 Iron Horse Drive. Celebrate Chinese New Year
The Asian-Pacific Association of Longmont, in partnership with the Silver Creek Leadership Academy, presents the 10th annual Chinese New Year Celebration from 2 to 5 pm on Saturday, February 8, at Silver Creek High School, 4901 Nelson Road. Usher in the Year of the Rat with a special Lantern Festival, and enjoy cultural performances including the Chinese Lion Dance, taiko drumming, and kung fu presentations; cultural and educational booths; live music; two art shows; robotics and virtual reality activities; and Asian food tasting.
