Waste Longmont’s sustainability vision calls for the stewardship of environmental resources. From a waste perspective, this means generating less waste, diverting as much waste as possible from landfills, responsibly planning for managing waste, and adopting new technologies and practices that reduce costs and impacts on the community and environmental health. Consistent with this vision, Longmont’s Zero Waste resolution, adopted in 2008, sets the City’s ambition to pursue zero waste as a long-term goal.

Citywide Waste Diversion

Through the Sustainability Plan, Waste Services and Environmental Services are partnering to decrease waste in the City of Longmont with a number of different programs, including:

Promoting the curbside composting and pay-as-you-throw programs.

Developing a strategic waste management plan with regional partners.

Partnering with Eco-Cycle and the St. Vrain Valley School District to bring the Green Star School Program to local schools.

Providing eco-friendly, compostable products for all departmental functions or City events.

Reduce and Divert Waste

Save money and reduce waste by reducing your trash bin size and switching to Curbside Composting.
