Adult Mental Health First Aid

Do you assist the elderly, work with the public, or are you a first responder? Nearly one in five people struggle with a mental health issue. Chances are you or someone you care about are impacted.

Mental Health First Aid is essential training for anyone age 18 and older who wants to learn how to help a person who may be experiencing a mental health related crisis or problem. This course teaches you to recognize signs and symptoms and provides the steps to take to provide help. Participants will come away with the skills and tools to offer help to others and increase their personal knowledge.

What you will learn in this eight-hour course:

  • The impact of mental illness in the U.S.
  • Risk factors and warning signs for depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use and psychosis
  • A five-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect to professional help
  • Local community resources available to offer support

Participants will receive an informational workbook that summarizes the training as well as a list of community resources.

  • Audio/video presentation
  • Opportunities for group discussion and practice
  • Earn 3-year certification
  • Participants MUST attend the full 8 hour course to receive a certificate

This course is available in English and Spanish.

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Do you coach young people? Are you an educator, or concerned parent? This training provides skills and tools to help a young person ages 12-18 who is experiencing a mental health challenge connect to the right help. This course is similar to Adult Mental Health First Aid training but is aimed toward adults who work with young people. Important for teachers, coaches, leaders of faith based communities, social workers and other caring community members.

This class is available to everyone 18 years or older.

What you will learn in this eight-hour course:

  • Information about typical adolescent development
  • Signs and symptoms of common mental health challenges in young people (12-18)
  • A five step action plan for how to help in both crisis and non-crisis situations
  • Local community resources available to offer support

What to expect:

  • Opportunities for group discussion and practice
  • Earn 3 year-certification
  • Participants MUST attend the full 8-hour course to receive a certificate

Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults

Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults uses the same content and book used in the Adult Mental Health First Aid curriculum but with a focus on older adults. The course is designed to help communities, families and anyone interested in better understanding geriatric mental health issues.

What you will learn in this eight-hour course:

  • Unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health challenges in adults over the age of 65
  • A five-step action plan to help an older adult in crisis connect to professional help
  • Local community resources available to offer support

Participants will receive an informational workbook that summarizes the training as well as a list of community resources.
