Purpose

The CVP Program allows members of the community to volunteer their time to assist the Longmont Police Services and the City of Longmont by providing support to law enforcement services. No law enforcement authority or power. No weapons of any kind while volunteering. CVP does carry pepper spray.

 Qualifications

Volunteers are selected from applicants who have the highest integrity standards. Applicants must be 21 years old and complete the application, oral board, and integrity interview, criminal history check, fingerprints, driving record, drug screening, and a voice stress polygraph. You are not required to be a Longmont resident in order to be a member of CVP. Volunteers must be able to provide a minimum of 10 hours per month with a one-year commitment. Mandatory monthly meeting: second Tuesday of each month 6:30pm-8:30pm.

 CVP Operations

Work with police officers and citizens to address public safety issues. Patrol the city in a radio-equipped vehicle or other approved form of transportation; report crime and disorder issues, and assist with directed patrols. Respond to and handle found property. Assist other department divisions in appropriate assignments as approved by the advisory staff. Volunteers always patrol in teams of two.

 Additional Operations / Optional
  • Call-out team. To assist with special events, and bicycle patrol.
  • 24/7 on-call. To assist with Longmont Police Services and other agencies to protect and serve with integrity and professionalism. To assist in emergency activities and incidents which require extra manpower. 
  • Bike Patrol. In order to provide necessary services to city parks, bike paths, green-ways, and other open spaces, the Longmont Police Services Citizens Volunteer Patrol may utilize bicycle patrols as an alternative of service delivery.
