44th Longmont Turkey Trot 10K & 2M

Date: Saturday, November 10, 2018

Time:  8am- Noon (maybe done around 11am-ish)

Volunteer Position:  Course Marshals- direct and cheer the runners on the race course 

Check In Location:  Altona Middle School- 4600 Clover Basin Dr, Longmont

Who can volunteer?

Everyone is welcome to volunteer!  Families, friends, seniors, adults, teenagers, anyone!   This is a great opportunity for High School students who are trying to earn volunteer hours as well! 

**Age requirement: without an adult, 16 years and older (may have to drive to volunteer location after check-in). Younger ages accepted with accompanying, supervising individual 16 years or older.

Time requested: 7 am to approximately noon

Position:
    Course Marshals
    Age requirement: without an adult, 16 years and older. Younger ages accepted with accompanying, supervising individual 16 years or older.
    Responsibilities: Cheer, provide directional guidance, and Encourage participants in race.
    Location: Will be on race course in the vicinity of Centennial Pool and the greater area of Centennial/Clark Park.

    What to Bring: Come prepared for Colorado weather (can be hot or cool), wear sun screen and bring water bottle. If you desire hours counted towards community service or volunteer hours, please bring sheet to be signed.
    Volunteers Provided: Volunteer/event T-shirt, coffee and breakfast treats sponsored by the Egg and I, frozen yogurt sponsored by The Wandering Cow!

    Location: Will be on race course. Download course map. Transportation to reach stations a huge plus.

    What to Bring: Come prepared for Colorado weather (can be hot or cool), wear sun screen and bring water bottle. If you desire hours counted towards community service or volunteer hours, please bring sheet to be signed.
    Volunteers Provided: Bagels, lunch, and a volunteer/event t-shirt at Check-In.

Volunteer Coaches Needed!

Do you have a passion for kids? Sports? Volunteering?  The City of Longmont Recreation Services – Athletics is in need of adults who would love to spend time with youth – coaching, mentoring and teaching life skills.  We offer volleyball and lacrosse in the Spring and Fall, Fast-pitch Softball in the Spring, Cross Country in the Fall, Basketball in the Winter and numerous sports in the summer season.  Practices are 2 hours per week with games/meets typically in Saturdays in Longmont or along the front range.  Coaches can choose practice time/place from available options.  Contact René Kingsley 303-651-8398 if you are able to volunteer.

The Longmont Recreation Services SCOPE (Supportive, Captivating, and Original Programs & Experiences) provides specialized support and recreational opportunities to people with disabilities and encourages people of all abilities to participate in recreational program and activities.

Our programs rely on YOU, our volunteers for its success!  Help make a difference in the lives of people with special needs.

Volunteer Opportunities through SCOPE:

-    Coach a Special Olympics Sports team (one night per week for one hour)
-    Play as a Unified Partner on a Special Olympics Sports team
-    Help us host at our monthly themed social events!

Sandstone Ranch Visitors Center Volunteers

  • Special Need:  Environmental Ed Field Trip Volunteers
    Spring, April-May & Fall, September-October
    Choose Tuesdays or Wednesdays (or both)
    8:30am-2pm,
    Requirements:
    •    Enjoy being around kids (2nd grade)
    •    Like to be outside.
    •    Be able to do some walking.
    •    Willingness to learn.  (You will be trained on subject matter)
    This program is hoping to expand over the next year to include all 2nd grade classes in the St Vrain School District.  This will not happen without volunteer help.  Training starts soon.  Contact Robin at robin.boden@longmontcolorado.gov.  If this isn’t for you, do you know someone who might like to have fun while teaching kids?

    Other Volunteer Opportunities at Sandstone:
    •    Help when open to public as greeter, manning craft or info stations, parking
    •    Helping with special events, lectures, workshops.
    •    Giving talks, workshops, walks or do crafts on topics such as wildlife, art, Longmont history, etc.
    •    Help behind the scenes: tending garden areas, doing small repairs, organizing, cutting craft materials, etc.

Positions Available: Timer- time the swim events; Runner- move the swim event cards from the timers the to ribbon table; Heater- organize the swim event cards into heats and lanes; Heater - give the kids their swim event cards and put them in their respective lanes.

Underwater Easter Egg Hunt

Volunteer Check-in: Noon
Time Requested: Noon to 5 pm

Position:
    Face Painters/ In-Water Egg Dispensers (bring a swim suit!)/ Craft Assistants
    Age requirements: without an adult, 13 years or older. Younger ages accepted with accompanying, supervising individual 16 years or older.

    Responsibilities: varies by positions. Face Painters paint small designs on faces/hands of attending children (paint provided). The In-Water Egg Dispensers are in the pool (generally in the shallow or 3-4 foot deep water) and take the eggs gathered by children and pour them out so they can be retrieved again and again. Craft Assistants help engage children in the arts and crafts available in the multipurpose room overlooking the pool; helping children and refilling supplies as needed.

    What to bring: for dry-land work - dress in layers for your comfort. In-water volunteers: please bring a swim suit and towel.
