Sharing the NextLight aims to narrow the “digital divide” in education by providing a free NextLight connection to qualifying low-income families in the St. Vrain Valley School District (SVVSD). Through community donations, these families will have access to fast and reliable internet service, allowing their children to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them. This is being done in partnership with the Longmont Community Foundation and with Children, Youth and Families.
- Qualifying families must live in Longmont in a NextLight-serviceable area, have children in the SVVSD schools, and receive free or reduced lunch assistance.
- Selected families will receive a free 25-megabit NextLight connection to their home (upload and download speed). Their free fiber modem will also include a built-in wireless router.
- Initially, the Longmont Community Foundation seeks to raise at least $60,000 by July 1, allowing the program to support 100 families for the 2019-2020 school year.
