Change in Collection Schedules

Growth in the southwest quadrant of Longmont has created an imbalance in the routing for the trash, recycle and compost collection services.  As a result, the Waste Services workgroup has developed a plan to modify routes to correct the imbalance.  The planned changes will affect approximately 2,000 households and will begin Monday April 29, 2019. 

The trash, recycle and composting maps illustrate the changes, and customers will be notified directly by the City with notices attached to their carts.  Advance notification to the affected customers will take place beginning in early April.  Yellow stickers will be applied onto your cart if you have a change to your collection schedule. 

We thank you for your understanding and should you have any questions, additional information is available through the collection schedule and social media platforms in addition to our website.  Should you already subscribe to the free collection notification service, it will be updated automatically.

Missed Collections

There are a number of reasons that your trash, recycling and/or composting might have been missed.

  • HOLIDAY WEEKS: During holiday weeks, the collection schedule is delayed by one day following the holiday. Find more details in the Holidays section below.
  • BLOCKED OR IMPROPER SET OUT: Sometimes trash/recycling/composting can’t be collected because containers are blocked or containers were set out incorrectly. Check the service guidelines to make sure your containers were set out correctly.
  • EVERY OTHER WEEK SCHEDULE: Recycling (blue lid), Composting (green lid) and EOW Trash (yellow lid) are only collected once every two weeks. Be sure to follow the collection schedule and set up reminders to help.
  • SEVERE WEATHER: On rare occasions, extreme weather such as snow, ice or wind can impact collection. Sign up for service alerts through the online calendar to be notified in these situations.

If your trash / recycling / composting was not picked up (and not for one of the above reasons), please contact Solid Waste.

Holidays

Collection service is not provided on the following holidays; Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. These holidays are observed according to the City of Longmont holiday schedule and are noted on collection calendars (above).

Pick up resumes the day after a City observed holiday. During a holiday week, if your normal collection day falls ON or AFTER the observed holiday, your collection will be one day later than normal.

Special Note - Day after Thanksgiving: Although the City of Longmont recognizes the day after Thanksgiving as a holiday, trash collection services do resume on this day (Friday); Thursday (Thanksgiving Day) collections will thus occur on Friday.
